Privacy Policy

Overview

MyChessRating.com ("we", "our", "the service") provides chess tournament management and player rating lookup tools. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Account registration

When you create an account we collect:

• Username
• Email address and/or phone number (used for account verification)
• Password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot read it)
• Your USCF ID, FIDE ID, and ratings (optional — used for rating impact calculations)

Tournament registration

When you register for a tournament we collect your name and any information entered by the tournament director (ratings, section, etc.).

Usage data

We store server-side session tokens (in an HTTP-only cookie) to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking cookies.

Information We Do Not Collect

• Payment card details — payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers.
• Location data
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs

Mobile App (Chess Player Lookup)

The mobile app does not require an account and does not transmit any personal data to our servers. Ratings you enter in "My Ratings" are stored locally on your device using your phone's secure storage and are never uploaded.

The app fetches publicly available player data from USCF and FIDE via our server-side API. No identifying information about you is sent during these lookups.

How We Use Your Information

• To verify your account and maintain your login session
• To pre-fill rating impact calculations on the player lookup and FIDE calculator pages
• To allow tournament directors to manage their events
• To send you a one-time verification code when you register (we do not send marketing emails)

Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except:

• Stripe — processes tournament entry payments. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Legal requirement — if required by law or court order.

Player names and ratings displayed in tournament standings and entry lists are visible to other logged-in users of the service, consistent with how chess tournament results are publicly reported.

Data Retention

Your account and profile data are retained for as long as your account is active. Tournament records are retained indefinitely as part of the historical record.

Your Rights

You may at any time:

• Update your profile information from the My Profile page
• Request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing us
• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you

Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. All traffic is encrypted via HTTPS. Session tokens expire automatically. We do not store any payment credentials.
